Wednesday August 19th Fishing for Oliphants and Other Island Adventures

Oliphant is the fourth stop on our Inroads Festival tour.  It is being presented in conjunction with The Shaw Family, who run the wonderful Fiddlehead Resort Camp.  Oliphant sits next to a legendary archipelago known as the Fishing Islands that was home to a thriving fishing industry in the early 1800s.  It is said that schools of fish were so thick that they lifted each other out of the water.  Those fruitful days are long gone,  the vast populations of fish being all but decimated, but clues to the spirit and lore of the time can be found in the names of the islands, which reflect their storied past.

As such, this concert is entitled "Fishing for Oliphants and Other Island Adventures".  From 3 to 5 PM a session will be held at the main Oliphant dock in which community members share stories they've heard about the islands, as well as their own experiences living with them or exploring them.  During this same session, the community will join with Inroads Festival artists to create a new song, utilizing the stories shared and the ideas that sprang from those tellings.  Later at the Fiddlehead Camp, a concert will feature sets of music from the visiting bands, and a performance of the new song!  The concert will begin at 7:30 PM.

We hope to see you there!
